Shannon B. Schmoyer is a partner in the law firm of Schmoyer Reinhard LLP. Prior to forming Schmoyer Reinhard, Ms. Schmoyer was a partner at the international law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where she served as the head of Akin Gump’s San Antonio labor and employment law section.
Ms. Schmoyer has been Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1998. Her practice focuses on the representation of employers in employment litigation, including class-actions, and labor arbitration. She also counsels employers on all aspects of labor and employment law and advises management on strategic and complex employment decisions. Additionally, her practice includes conducting training programs for managers and supervisors on various employment-related topics.
Ms. Schmoyer has over 20 years of trial experience in both state and federal court. Her extensive experience includes litigating claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and various state workers’ compensation acts. Additionally, she has arbitrated numerous unfair labor practice claims under the National Labor Relations Act. Ms. Schmoyer also is an experienced appellate lawyer, representing employers in various state and federal courts of appeals.
Ms. Schmoyer is a 1987 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Oklahoma, graduating first in her class and being named to the Top Ten Seniors list. Thereafter, she received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1991. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and 10th Circuits.
Ms. Schmoyer is a frequent speaker at various labor and employment law conferences and is the author of numerous employment law-related articles. She is actively involved in several community and professional organizations, including the San Antonio Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the San Antonio Women’s Advisory Board, the Bexar County Women’s Bar Association, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and the San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Schmoyer is a member of the Executive Council of the State Bar of Texas Labor and Employment Law Section. Ms. Schmoyer is a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and she serves on the Board of Directors of Family Service Association.
Ms. Schmoyer has been rated by her peers with the Martindale-Hubbell "AV" rating, the highest rating for both skill and integrity. She has been named in a survey of her peers as a Thomson Reuters Texas "Super Lawyer" from 2003 to 2010. In 2008 and 2009, Thomson Reuters "Super Lawyer" also named her as one of the top 50 women lawyers in Texas and as one of the top 50 lawyers in the Central and West Texas region. Additionally, Ms. Schmoyer has been chosen by her peers and named in Scene in SA Monthly magazine as one of San Antonio’s best labor and employment lawyers from 2006 to 2010. In 2010, Ms. Schmoyer was also the recipient of the inaugural Outstanding Labor and Employment Lawyer award presented by the San Antonio Business Journal.
